A simple, delicious soda bread. Best if prepared the day before or many hours before serving.
Irresistible Irish soda bread
Ingredients
- 3 cups of all-purpose flour.
- 1 tablespoon of baking powder.
- cup white sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt.
- 1 teaspoon of baking soda.
- One big egg, gently beaten
- 2 cups buttermilk.
- ¼ cup melted butter
Directions
Step 1
Preheat your oven at 325 degrees Fahrenheit (165 degrees Celsius). Grease a 9-by-5-inch loaf pan.
Step 2
In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, sugar, salt, and baking soda. Blend the egg and buttermilk together; add all at once to the flour mixture and stir just until moistened. Stir in the butter. Pour into the prepared pan.
Step 3
Bake in a preheated oven for 65 to 70 minutes, or until golden brown on top. A toothpick put into the bread should come out cleanly. Cool on a wire rack.
